Born to Blog (with puppy pictures - SQUEEEE)

I so enjoyed all your comments on momma's blue words yesterday. I helped to know that I am not the only doggie who suffers with humans who are less than dutiful in their blogging activities.

Having come into this world in the year 2008, is it any surprise that I was on the Internet from the time I was a wee pup? Here is a photo from when Momma and Master came to be interviewed by me and my litter mates.

Dexter? Perhaps. Momma couldn't tell us pups apart.

I was so happy to learn that I was going to have another doggie to keep me company in my new home. Not only that, a doggie who already had an established Internet presence so I wouldn't have to train Momma to assist with postings.

I was a bit disappointed when my doggie brother did not greet me upon arrival at the estate, but I'm a patient fellow and I settled in with a nommy toy to wait for my pal to arrive.

I did find it odd that Momma and Master had a large, furry piece of furniture with no known use. Not wanting to offend, I settled in next to the object to show that I approved of their interior decorating choices.

That furry furniture appears to have a slobber fountain. How odd.

Can you imagine my horror when the object suddenly animated? I confess, I kind of pee'd a little bit.

OMG! IT'S ALIVE!!!

Worse still, was the realization that my new humans were a tad delusional as they insisted that the absurdly large creature was an actual doggie! Not just any "doggie" but my erstwhile companion, Mango, Relentlessly Huge.

I tried my best to keep my distance as the simple being lumbered about the property.

I think this is a safe distance. I've got my escape route planned out.

Despite my best attempts, I frequently found myself staring in horror into the cavernous maw which threatened to engulf me and drag me to my doom much as the great whale swallowed Jonah.

Is this the end for yours truly?

With no other options, I determined to befriend the beast and I am happy to report that by the time winter rolled around I was giving attitude right back.

Who's the big dog now?

We were friends, after a fashion, and as time passed, he even let me take the lead on some of his guard duties.

I'm Dexter on duty! Wait until Momma sees!

It's been a year now since Mango made his final journey. Sure, I miss him sometimes. How could I not?

Which is all to say, I've been a blogging kind of guy from day one. I'm not as practiced as the RH in getting Momma to post, but I do try and that's the best a chap can do.

Dexter done!

  3. Hi Dexter. I love your blogging abilities. Time slips away from all of us and blogging seems to be the first casualty. But it is nice to know it is there when we are ready to return.

I was featured a little bit on Captain Maverick's blog before I joined the Army, but I had never done a post myself! I'm glad I had my Davy and Zim to help me!

  5. We were able to tell that the blond dog splatted on the the floor in the first photo probably wasn't you - although Mom seems to find great amusement with that photo. There was much squeeing with regard to your pictures as a youngster! I, too, would have been quite disconcerted by a large brindle-colored piece of furry furniture. Especially once it started moving a slobbering and whatnot. However, I WAS a tad mystified by the appearance of my puppy monster sister - especially when she just Would Not Stop Growing! It was like something out of a Roald Dahl book! As an aside, I think you've taken to the blogging thing quite marvelously; I'm not quite sure if Abby would ever have the, ah, focus to bloggie, but of course, that's what I'm for!

  17. Dexter, if you feel a little too sentimental, I'll send ya a couple of bottles of slobber. You can just open the lids, flick some around for your Momma to clean, dribble a bit on your furs and pour some in the Master's boots. We loved your photos as a pup. Hey were you a total squirt or is it an optical illusion cause of Uncle Mango hehehe. We're sure glad you kept on blogging mate. Where else would our mum learn new, big words!! No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  19. We really enjoyed all the photos of you and Mango. You were such an adorable little dude. No wonder you grew up to be so handsome. We think you have done a fine job training your Momma to blog for you. Maybe you just need to find her most favoritist reward and pull that out to offer just for blogging purposes only. Let us know if that works for you.

  20. Dexter, you look so sweet in those photos. I especially love the one of you and Mango on guard duty. I didn't really get to know Mango and that makes me sad but Momma says he and Twix were friends and she tells me stories of Mango's adventures. I have loved getting to know you and you were one cute puppy!
Note from Mom: Sending hugs and love to you as we know how hard the anniversary is. Last week was 2 years for us.

  22. Oh my gosh Dexter, you were fortunate not to have been swallowed whole when you first met the RH!

Apropos of the pro-blogging debate, I am not normally in the habit of begging friends to visit my blog (heaven knows we are all busy enough) but I do think that the letter I received at the weekend, reproduced in my current post , illustrates just perfectly why blogs (and proper letters) are better than 140 character Tweets and FB.

  28. You were a beautiful baby, Dex, and I'm sure Mango was only drooling on you to keep you cool. Those are some wonderful pictures of you and Mango together. It was a very sad day when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, although I know Thor was there to greet him, and he's how drooling on Baby Brutus to keep him cool.
