Too Hot to Blog!

Friends, here in New England we are caught in the grip of an oppressive and lifestyle altering heat wave.

While some amongst you might be acclimated to or even desirous of living where it is jungle hot day after day, yours truly is not so inclined.

Momma has declared it "too hot to blog or even read blogs" as in between short excursions outdoors, she is primarily confined to her comfy chair, blurring the pages of her latest book with her sweaty palms.

We have, however, been making daily treks to the cement pond. On July 4th, my sissy-in-law came over and brought with her a strange little creature which I am told is my nephew. I found him entirely uninteresting as he was capable only of jerking his sausage like limbs and making primal vocalizations.

I confess that by last night, the relentless heat had even robbed me of some of my labraspirit. On our trip to the pool, I was quite content to rest myself in the cooling waters and forgo any actual swimming.

Tomorrow promises to be "only" in the eighties and should we survive the night, I am optimistic about the chances of having a productive day.

Dexter done!

  1. Wow, Dexter and I thought that we were having a heat wave down in Nottingham at the human grandparents' house right now because the temperature has just reached the eighties (in your money).

  2. We can't even imagine it being jungle hot! I was in the 80's here for a couple of days and we almost died from that! Luckily it's cooling down once again.

  3. We have the same crappy weather here. At least you have nice neighbors with a cement pond that they let you use to help keep you cool. Not that our neighbors aren't nice, but non have a cement pond.

  4. Dexter Dude...our limited experience with small humans is that they are incredible (awesome) sources of dropped food and great smells. Give the kid a chance.

We are glad that you have a cement pond available and figure that you were not being lazy, but had carefully calculated the flow of the water from the pump and were waiting for the ball to come to YOU.

  5. Woo! What's a LabraDude to do? Glad you got to go swimming - do you have air conditioning? I recommend laying on the A/C vents.

  6. We sure wish we had a pool! On weekends, we get stuck in the Aire-conditioned house all day long bored out of our minds! We can't wait for the cooler weather!
Looking at your new header picture is making us feel a wee bit cooler, Dexter!

    Love ya lots♥

  7. Hi Dexter! I can't believe that you could just sit there in the pool with that ball in front of you and not go for it. I live in CA and don't get heat like you're having so I have no way of really knowing, but I just don't think I could let a ball sit there in front of me like that!!! Hope it cools off soon for you!

  8. Dex! You are very fortunate to have a nice neighbor with a cement pond. They are probably grateful to have a daily deposit of labrafurs in their filter system. Stay cool and get the momma into that pool with you. She'll feel better!

  10. Stay cool, Dexter dog...and Momma. We're sitting by the heater here...and can't wait for summer. That pool looks perfect - crystal clear and inviting.

  11. Surely you didn't forget to fill your SNOW LOCKER with last winter's FREEZING White stuffs, did you????
We have had a nice "Comfortable" spell... butt it is supposed to get Blistering HOT next week...
YOU are soooo lucky that you have the concrete pond to ... refresh your lumbering Labra self in. We love that pic of you Sitting on the submerged step/seat.

  12. Our Mom wants to know if your Mom is being tortured by guys in cute red uniforms wielding soft cushions while she is in the comfy chair. We have NO IDEA what our Mom is talking about. However, given that our respective mothers seem to be nerd-twins separated at birth, your Mom will likely know exactly what our Mom is talking about. *sigh* We hope you are able to stay cool in that cement pond! Our weather has FINALLY cooled off (for a couple of days) after record-breaking heat, but at least we don't get that jungle heat like you do. Maybe we should all go visit the Thundering Herd - their weather looks nice and cool. And what's a few more dogs up there, right?

  14. We agree, this weather is extra gross! Glad you can cool off in the cement pond, we're hanging out in the A/C between walks.

  15. Naturally we're the opposite, it's nearly too cold in the office to blog. Outside we can see the frost..... BUT it'll clear up to a great day...about 68°, so we can put up with a little frost.

Glad you're able to keep cool in the pool. And that little biped will be more interesting when it starts to drop food and stuff.

  16. Howdy Dex, sorry it's been hot for ya. Wish we could send some of our cold weather (6C/37F here at the moment). You are one lucky dude to get to swim in your neighbours pool. Mum squeeeed when she saw your little nephew. We just sighed cause she's cracker about little peeps. As if we aren't cute enough! Take care mate. We'll have paws crossed your weather cools soon. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  22. Oh Dex, you are just the funniest! I think your nephew will grow on ya! Those sausage limbs will soon be able to throw a ball!! Yea!
As for the heat...whew! I feel your pain! It's finally cooled down here, butts it was a week of high 90's and 100's! Now that it's cooler, I am finally able to go outside for longer than five minutes!
Though that pool looks awfully inviting!
    Kisses,

  23. Hey Dexter!
Wow, your header pix is so very cute! Gosh, I'd love to have a concrete pond and if I was there we'd share a few laps. It's been cool and rainy here and I'm missing my swimmie time, so it was nice to see your pool pix!

  24. Oh Dex, we feel your pain buddy!!! I just love the sitting and "wishing" the ball would come to you photo. When Mabel was a pup, if the ball went in deep water, she would curl her front paw in the water hoping it would come to her!

Still reading the comments on your Mom's Blue words post... fascinating!

  25. You'd never survive here. ;)

Our lows in the morning have been in the 90's. It's absurd, really. I am glad you have a pool though! So today at work I had to walk to the other building and as you know it's pretty scorching outside. So I stuck an ice pack down the back of my shirt on my short jaunt and it worked brilliantly! I try to refrain from perspiring at work - no one needs to see that. So hey - try an ice pack when you are feeling too warm and I think it'll help a lot! :)

  26. It was actually tolerable this morning, but this afternoon it is back to oppressive. I can't take this heat wave!

  27. Something is terribly wrong when it's too hot to chase a tennis ball while in a cement pond. There should be personal a/c units so we can enjoy the outside when it's just too darn hot.
