Sorrow, Celebration, Betrayal, and SWIMMING!

SORROW

Two friends made their final journey recently.

Miss Blueberry, the ever elegant Greyhound.
We will miss you, elegant lady. I hope that Bunny is up to filling your place as the queen of the household.
You can visit her blog here.

And Remi, the giant Dalmatian (well, not really, he's a great dane dog).
Our giant friends are never with us for long. Remi was just seven (like my Mango).
You can visit his blog here.

CELEBRATION

Momma passed her stupid exam. She's now a certified actual Project Management Professional (makes me wonder what she's been doing the past 87 years operating without a license).

BETRAYAL

Did anybody read momma's blue words yesterday?
Did everybody in blogland know that she was on a puppy quest besides yours truly?
It isn't about "get a puppy" or "don't get a puppy." It's about trust.
What else has she done without consult?

SWIMMING

The cement pond next door opened just in the nick of time. It is surface of the sun jungle hot here and I, for one, think that nothing heals sorrow, or feels more like a celebration, or lightens the load of betrayal like a dip in the pool.

Try it, you'll see what I mean.

Sorry for the blurry photo.
Momma should have used the high speed action setting on the flashy.
I ZOOM through the water. She calls me her little otter.

Dexter done!

P.S. From Mango Momma - thank you for all your considered responses to yesterday's post. It is wonderful to read many different experiences and perspectives and to know that there is a community of crazy dog people who spend a lot of time considering what is best for their beloved friends.

  1. Dexter, I love when you can get back in your cement pond. I am not a swimmer, but I do enjoy seeing you. Mommy especially loves the side of the pool pictures with your paws up on the edge. Mommy is a sucker for an adorable face like yours(giggles). My Mommy has thought a few times about a live in pal for me. I have let her know in no uncertain terms that she is on the wrong path. Congratulations to your Mom on her test, now she can focus on what is impawtant, like you

  3. How did you sneak a post about puppies by us that we missed? I must go see what this is about!

Thank you so much for your kind words about Blueberry! We are having a hard time believing she is really gone. We'd be happy to let you have a picture of her if you wanted it!

  4. You mean to tell us that in all this "get a puppy/don't get a puppy" thing, your Momma didn't even consult you?!? *sheesh* Talk about a dictatorial autocrat! Maybe you can blame her betrayal on the mental fits she was having over this certification thing. (And do your Momma's employers know that they had some unlicensed amateur working for them?!?) At least you can finally retreat to the cement pond!

Congrats to your Momma about her exams! My human, Paul, says that exams get harder & harder as you get older so it's a real achievement. :-)

  9. You must be happy that your mom passed her test so she can stop ignoring you. I sure wish I had a cement pond to go swimming in. All I have is a sprinkler to attack, but it does make me cooler.

  19. Oh Dex, I'm so sorry to hear abouts you furends crossin' the bridge. I'll head on over...
Now, Ma missed commenting on yesterday's postie (she gets distracted sometimes...it's my burden to bear...) butts she had to tell you that she laughed soooo much hearin' your Moms talkin' about Angus! Oh, she thought she was the only one who thought we were 'too much' at times!! She says that she now understands why peeps usually have TWO at once...they wear eachother out!
(she wishes she knew this tidbit before....)
Anyhu, Dexter, you shouldn't feel too betrayed ~ I'm sure YOU would always have the last word!
LOVE your cement pond! That looks like some very refreshin' waters!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  22. Dexter, sorry about the loss of your friends. Congrats to your smart Momma on passing her test - I knew she would! I didn't weigh in on the puppy debate because I have an obvious bias towards having two dogs around. Did the single dog thing for many years until we got Miss Panda when our old lab was 12. Puppy Panda learned a lot from that old lab (even some good things) and Jake the Lab found his inner puppy again for a little while. Jake passed away at 13 and Panda was so lonely. I hadn't realized how much she depended on him for company and advice. Enter Boston number 2, Sadie. Since Panda is such a strong personality, we did worry about bullying, but Sadie just lets things roll off her back and they compliment each other perfectly. It was the absolute right decision for our house hold. Besides, Mr. T stole Panda away from me and I needed a BT of my own! Now he's stolen them both! My vote is for a playmate for you, but after going to perhaps dog parks and figuring out what kind of dog you like to hang out with. The big dog/little dog thing worked very well in our case. Best of luck to you and Momma and I'm thrilled you have access to the cement pond again. Ann

  23. Howdy Dex, wowza that header photo made Stella drool a little. She's says you're one handsome labradude. Congratulations to your Momma. As if your Momma and the Master would need another pup with you around. Sheesh. Maybe you could chew up some shoes, pee on the carpet and stuffs just to remind them what it's like to have a pup hehehe.

Sorry to hear about your friend Miss Blueberry and Remi. We are dropping in to offer condolences. Take care everybuddy. No worries, and slobber, Rory and Stella

  25. Love your new pic!!!

Congrats to your Mom on passing her exam! Now she's "legal"! :)

I had not heard about Miss Blueberry - I will have to head over there next. I did hear about Remi - very sad. Our dogs just don't live long enough, do they? :(

  26. I hadn't heard about Blueberry until I read this. How sad! :( I can't believe your momma was talking puppies without even discussing it with you first. How rude!

  27. Well, Hooray for Momma being all properly certified and whatnot!

I think Momma knows what's best for you. For instance, she took you to the concrete pond, knowing that's best for you! And maybe some day she'll decide you need a new brother.

We are sorry for the loss of your friends; it's hard to lose a giant personality like those.
