Saying Goodbye to Miss Emma

My heart is breaking as I must say goodbye to the beautiful and sweet Miss Emma.

Miss Emma was a Great Dane and a grand lady. Kind of a giant dog Methuselah, defying the odds by living to the age of 14.

Ultimately, she could not fight the cancer monster anymore and on Sunday she made her final journey.

Emma showed us all that you are as young as you feel. Last year she entered Mango Minster 2012 as an Adventure Animal and as you can see, she was very brave and adventurous (I'm not sure I would go in that splashy water with waves and whatnot).

You will be remembered always, Miss Emma, a giant dog with Relentlessly Huge love for your family and friends.

You can visit Emma's family here.

  13. Thank you Dexter and everyone for all the comforting words. You don't know how much this means to me considering so many other people think dogs are "just dogs". It's very comforting to know I'm not alone in loving my dog as a family member.

Thank you so much for your kindness.

  19. I am most impressed that Miss Emma lived to be 14! She obviously had a big strong heart that held a lot of love from her people and looks like she sent it right back out too. Don't be too sad Dexter, Mango has most likely given her a RH welcome. Ann TBL

  27. We didn't know Miss Emma, but we know how her family is feeling. OurMoma's got a special place in her heart for Danes. Our AuntieJudith had several before she "downsized" to her whippet (our cousin Zoe). We've heard lots of stories about Tweed (AuntieJudith's first Dane) and Kizzy (OurMom's first WFT.) It seems those two pups created lots of memories. We hope Miss Emma's family has lots of wonderful memories to hold on to. No doubt they do, after 14 years. Wow.

You know what Pea? OurMoma thinks of you almost every day when she goes to visit OurGramma. The resident dog at the assisted living facility is a HOOGE black lab. Titan. Mostly, though, he's a HOOGE .... ummm ... black pile. He barely moves and he's way way way overweight. It makes OurMoma sad every time she sees him. We wish you and your mom could teach him about exercise and menials and a good diet. Wanna acme to Colorado?

    xx

  28. Hehehe. Come. Not acme. (It's time to go to bed. We keep staring at her telling her. Maybe she'll get the idea now.)
