It's the same conversation every year, for four long years...
Momma: Oh Dexter, I think our holiday photo came out great.
Me: What do you mean? Look how sad my face is.
Momma: Doesn't Mango look handsome?
Me: He's sitting like a klutz. And his lipstick is out.
Momma: Mango's just being festive. You need to lighten up.
And that, my friends is how photos such as the one below wound up being on our holiday cards.
Don't use this picture, please, I look like a fat, miserable blob.
This year, I insisted that Momma invite Jimmy and Kylie's momma over for a real photo shoot.
I even agreed to getting a bath so that I would look extra shiny.
Right on time she arrived and set about transforming the estate into a professional photo studio, starting with a nice white back drop.
This is going to be great!
Things didn't get off to such a good start because Momma kept interfering. She actually wanted me to wear antlers!
I love my momma, no doubt about it, but she has some odd ideas about how to capture my handsomeness and I assure you that wearing antlers is not the way.
I apologize for giving her the evil eye a bit, but this was a serious situation.
Get your big foot out of my photo!
I was worried that she was turning into one of those Toddlers and Tiaras freak-a-zoid moms.
It was quite clever on my part to put her to work in the other room placing bows on our outside tree.
I think you missed a spot, just keep working on it, you're doing great.
While I settled back in with Jimmy and Kylie's mom for some serious photography.
Wow! Is she a great photographer or what? She really knows how to get a chap nice and relaxed.
The result? Do I need to be humble? Look at me! Labradorable!
That's my favorite picture from the day, but not the one I put on my holiday cards. I let Master choose and he liked a different one.
If you live in the Boston area, you could get Jimmy and Kylie's mom to take your photo too. It doesn't have to be for an occasion either, just a chance to capture yourself in something a bit better than those googly eyed snaps that our humans seem doomed to take over and over and over and...
Here's a link to her web site.
Now I'm off to sort through my card list and make sure momma gets enough for ALL my pals (she can be so cheap sometimes).
P.S. Momma is still not healthy so we've not been visiting blogs at all lately. She's upright and everything and we're going on walkies (albeit not so far nor so fast as before), but she is still feeling a bit "toxic."
